Physical Backup, Amazon S3, Wasabi, 2FA – New in Altaro VM Backup for MSPs

I’m very happy today to be able to bring you the latest news regarding Altaro VM Backup for MSPs!

We get A LOT of feedback from customers regarding what to bake into our feature set next, but in this last year or so, we’ve not heard any request louder than the request for these three items. Today, I’m happy to report that we have now added support for the following into Altaro VM Backup for MSPs:

  • Physical Windows Server Backup with Integration into the Altaro Cloud Management Console
  • Support for Amazon S3 Storage as an Offsite Backup Target
  • Support for Wasabi as an Offsite Backup Target
  • Additional Two Factor Authentication security

Physical Server Backup

Many MSPs are still running into organizations with that one server that (for numerous reasons) can’t be virtualized. Maybe it’s due to regulatory reasons, or maybe it’s because of licensing. Whatever the reason, Altaro VM Backup for MSPs now has the ability to backup physical Windows Servers and restore them into a virtual environment (either as a virtual disk or as a VM running on Hyper-V).

This functionality can be managed from the Altaro Cloud Management Console in the same fashion that MSPs are already managing backups for their customer’s virtual machine backups. Billing, reporting and priority 24/7 support is included as well.

“This functionality meets a need expressed by our Altaro community who want to extend their VM backup offerings to physical servers too,” said David Vella, Altaro CEO. “It also gives Altaro MSPs a wider services portfolio and a new revenue stream.”

Support for Amazon S3 and Wasabi

Altaro VM Backup for MSPs has had the ability to back up native to Azure-based storage accounts for some time. However, we understand that not all MSPs are partnered that closely with Microsoft, and as a result, we’re delighted to provide additional offsite storage options to our partners.

This integration with Amazon S3 and Wasabi is native, secure, and requires no additional resources running in the target cloud to provide offsite backup storage.

Two Factor Authentication

Security is, of course, a paramount concern for our product development and although Two Factor Authentication (or 2FA) has already been available as a security option for access to the Altaro Cloud Management Console (CMC), we are now able to bring this functionality to protect the local management console from unauthorized access. This additional level of security

  • Philipp Machac (myNET gmbh) says:

Good step but only supporting Backup to S3 Storage from Amazon and wasabi, and not all s3-compatible-storages?

Would allow small CSPs to promote their regional S3 Storage. Are there any plans for that?

    • Hi Philipp! This is good feedback! While there are currently no plans for this, I’ll be sure to share this with the product group for future consideration. We take all feedback seriously when planning product updates. Thanks again!
