Junior Systems Administrator


The Junior Systems Administrator works alongside our IT team and Systems Engineers and his primary role is to maintain essential Internal IT Operations to our internal user base.

In addition, the Junior Systems Administrator will need to assist in maintaining the Internal IT infrastructure (ranging from Hyper-V and VMware clusters, SAN / NAS devices and networks).

Areas of Responsibility:

  • Install and configure new hardware and applications as needed such as physical servers, VM's (Hyper-V, VMware), storage (SAN / NAS devices) laptops, desktops, phones (3CX) and peripherals
  • Provide timely technical answers and remote end user support to our internal user base
  • Assist with Internal IT server operations, including backup, monitoring and reporting
  • Troubleshoot any reported problems in a timely manner
  • Track all IT end user related requests within the Internal Service desk ticketing system
  • On-boarding and off-boarding of employees
  • Analyse system logs and identify potential issues with Internal systems
  • Patch Management of all end user's equipment and application
  • Follow-up on open issues that arise throughout the course of daily duties and/or other assignments being performed
  • Work with 3rd party IT vendors when required
  • Responsible to procure, maintain and securely recycle Internal IT equipment
  • Maintain the local server room in assistance with the rest of the IT team
  • Contribute to the improvement of the IT function and its operating processes including documentation
  • Perform additional duties and assignments as required

Skills Needed:

  • Strong customer service orientation
  • Strong interpersonal, written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Experience working in a team oriented, collaborative environment
  • Significant knowledge of PC hardware and software application maintenance and troubleshooting
  • Good understanding of powershell scripting
  • Understanding of LAN/WAN technologies and telecommunications including DNS, DHCP, WIFI access points, switches and troubleshooting techniques
  • Able to prioritise, execute tasks and make good decisions in emergency situations
  • Able to conduct research into issues and new products as required
  • Ability to present ideas and suggestions in a user-friendly language
  • Must be able to quickly learn new skills and technologies
  • On-call availability
  • Covid19 – Currently all Altaro employees are working remote. The individual will be required to work both from home and office during these times. Good Internet connection at home is required.


  • At least 2 years' experience in a similar position
  • In depth knowledge of Ms Windows OS (access control, file system, registry, memory, process models), Office Suite including O365, MAC OS, mobile platforms, generic applications and Active Directory
  • Technical qualifications such as Advanced Diploma in IT or in progress of doing a BSc in Computing
  • Technical certifications from technical accredited bodies would be an asset
