How does subscription billing work?

Billing is per user.

A user is a backed up Mailbox, Shared Mailbox, OneDrive Account or Shared OneDrive Account. Each of these requires a user license.

If a single user has both Mailbox and OneDrive backups, that counts as one billable user.

SharePoint Site Document libraries are backed up for free as long as OneDrive backups are enabled for that organization.

How does SharePoint licensing work?

SharePoint Document Library backups do not require direct licensing. They use the available storage allocated to users licensed for the Office 365 organisation.

What does pricing include?

Pricing is per user per month. It is a single fee that includes:

• Mailbox backup
• OneDrive Account backup (optional)
• SharePoint Document Library backup (optional)
• Storage of backed up data
• Access to the CMC
• 24/7 technical support

You are only charged for users successfully backed up per month – you can add or remove users according to your needs. You can scale up to tens of thousands of users.

There's a starting subscription of up to 10 users (mailboxes only) a month across all your customers combined.

Each user license is subject to a fair use policy of 50GB for mailbox, OneDrive and SharePoint backups combined. This is pooled across all licensed users for an Office 365 organisation. Additional storage would need to be purchased if the fair use policy is exceeded; contact us for more information.

Are there no storage costs?

Storage is part of the monthly all-inclusive price per user. You have access to 50GB of storage per user (as stipulated by the Altaro Office 365 Backup Fair Use Policy) for mailbox, OneDrive and SharePoint backups combined. This is pooled across all licensed users for an Office 365 organisation.

Does Altaro charge extra when I perform a restore for a customer?

No. We charge one fixed all-inclusive price per user per month.

What if I do not have a minimum of 10 users to back up each month?

You can start with as few users as you wish. Our starting subscription includes up to 10 users (mailboxes only) a month, so if you wish to start with fewer users, you can.

Do I have to subscribe to both Altaro VM Backup for MSPs and Altaro Office 365 Backup for MSPs?

No.
The two are separate products and you can subscribe to one of these solutions without needing to subscribe to the other.

Do I need to download or install anything in order to trial Altaro Office 365 Backup for MSPs?

There's no installation necessary. Simply sign up and connect an Office 365 account. Backups are taken automatically and saved to Altaro's Azure infrastructure.

How many users can be backed up?

Any number of users can be backed up. There's a minimum starter pack covering up to 10 users (mailboxes only) per month across all your customers.

During the 30-day trial, however, you can back up a maximum of 10 users. Should you wish to increase this during your trial, please click here to send a request.

How frequently are backups taken?

Backups of each user and SharePoint Document Library are taken up to four times a day. This is seamless to the user and takes place automatically – no interaction is required on the user's part.

Can we use our own storage for the backups instead of Altaro's Azure infrastructure?

All Office 365 storage is handled by Altaro and this cost is included in the price per mailbox per month. Data is stored in MS Azure blob storage. It is not possible to store the data elsewhere. There are currently no plans to allow storage to on-prem repositories or other storage accounts / cloud storage.

If we delete the Office 365 user but want to keep the data, can we keep the backup?

Yes, there is an option to stop backups and retain the data. As long as the subscription is active, the content will be retained.

How long is backup data retained?

Indefinitely. Data is kept forever or until a user subscription is stopped.

Where is Altaro Office 365 Backup data hosted?

Altaro's Office 365 Backup data is stored at rest in Microsoft Azure West Europe (Netherlands). This location was selected after a due-diligence process that considered the physical security, certification, scalability, reliability, security and financial stability of the location.

What security mechanisms are in place to protect storing and transmission of data?

All backup data is protected by AES 256-bit encryption at rest.

All data transmissions with third-party APIs (e.g., Office 365) occur over TLS encryption.

All authentication user interaction (login, setting changes, subscription management and accessing backed up data) occurs over TLS encrypted channel.

Administrative access to Altaro's infrastructure is controlled through role-based access and centralised account management that provides improved monitoring of accounts and access.

Altaro's engineering teams proactively monitors and maintains the infrastructure 24/7.

Does Altaro Office 365 Backup for MSPs back up OneDrive and SharePoint?

Yes, files stored within OneDrive and SharePoint Document Libraries can be backed up, with the backups being stored securely.

Will you do backup for Gmail?

Currently there are no plans to support G Suite (Google's office suite, including mail service).

How does it work if I use both Altaro VM Backup for MSPs and Altaro Office 365 Backup for MSPs?

If you subscribe to both products, then both products are accessible via your account on the Altaro Cloud Management Console (CMC). When using the CMC, you simply need to select which product you want to use – you can switch from one product to the other in the CMC.

I don't need to back up files within OneDrive and SharePoint for all my customers – can I simply back up their Office 365 mailboxes?

Yes, the choice is yours. Per customer, you can choose to back up mailboxes alone; or to back up mailboxes and files stored in OneDrive and SharePoint Document Libraries. Different per user pricing applies for both options.
