  • Fast and simple to use - Create multiple backup policies so that you can easily configure backup settings for large groups of desktops and laptops, making things quicker and easier. You can also use scripts or remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools to deploy the endpoint agent to multiple endpoints at once.

  • Free version for your own internal use - Your paid subscription also gives you the ability to back up 10 of your own endpoints for free (internal use only).

Despite companies' best efforts to ensure that company data is only stored on their network servers or in the cloud, end users often only save files on their local devices, meaning endpoint protection is a must.

As an MSP, you can give your customers endpoint data protection by backing up data on their Windows desktops and laptops as a managed service. Should disaster strike, you can restore their files and folders fully and quickly.

Use EndPoint Backup for MSPs – available as part of the 365 Total Backup (formerly Altaro Office 365 Backup for MSPs) subscription program – for endpoint protection, to protect thousands of Windows workstations and laptops across multiple customers. Manage customer backups centrally through a convenient multi-tenant cloud-based console.

ENDPOINT BACKUP

  • File-based backup: Back up the files and folders on your customers' endpoints. Pick the files you need to back up, using selective inclusion within their directories. You can opt to exclude directories or filetypes by making use of wildcards (e.g., *.iso, *.exe).
  • Roaming endpoint backup without a VPN: Employees are often equipped with roaming endpoints such as laptops that they take off site to their homes, to meetings or while traveling, for example. The solution conveniently backs these up without requiring a VPN. Through the creation of backup policies, you can ensure that any endpoint, whether at the office or anywhere around the world, is automatically backed up as often as required, without requiring end user intervention.
  • Policy-driven protection: Create backup policies to define settings such as backup location, frequency and retention. using multiple backup policies, you can easily configure backup settings for large groups of endpoints. For instance, you can create one policy for a customer's sales team and a different one for their administration team, with the ability to associate any newly approved endpoints accordingly. Additionally, you can use group labels to facilitate large-scale endpoint management.
  • Scriptable and scalable deployment: Don't suffer through the painstaking process of deploying one endpoint agent at a time. Instead, deploy several endpoint agents at once using group policies (GPOs), remote monitoring and management (RMM) tools or PowerShell scripts. You can choose whether to use a standard GUI installer for manual installation or a silent MSI installer for automated deployments.
  • Automatic backups: You can set backups to take place automatically every 1 to 24 hours. Set it and forget it.

ENDPOINT DATA RECOVERY

  • File recovery: Restore all files and folders from a chosen Windows workstation or laptop. You can restore the files back to their original machine or your endpoint manager server.

ENDPOINT BACKUP STORAGE

  • Secure cloud storage: Backup data is stored efficiently and securely, as it is:
    • Deduplicated using block level deduplication
    • Compressed
    • Encrypted securely using AES-256 keys uniquely generated per endpoint.
Store your customer workstation backups in your own Microsoft Azure storage accounts.
  • Change block tracking: To minimize backup size and maximize backup speed, EndPoint Backup for MSPs uses change block tracking. This means that the solution only backs up changes to the data set, reducing bandwidth and storage volumes.
  • Provide storage services using your Azure account: Save backups to your own MS Azure account and bill each customer for storage used, adding another revenue stream over and above the backup service itself.

What are endpoints?

Endpoints are the machines used by end users on a network, such as workstations, PCs, desktops and laptops.

What is endpoint backup?

As much of the work within a business or organization is conducted on network PCs and laptops, it is important to back these up.

Very often, businesses tend to overlook this area, even though these devices can contain confidential and sensitive data, while backing up other parts of their network such as their virtual machines and servers.

Failing to back up endpoints results in a gap in your disaster recovery plan when it comes to restoring data after this has been lost or damaged. Causes of data loss and damage include deletion; malware and ransomware; device theft; power outages; flooding; or other disasters.

An endpoint backup solution allows you to back up on-premises and roaming endpoints, and to benefit from increased endpoint data protection across the entire network.

Why do I need endpoint backup?

Despite companies' and organizations' best efforts to ensure information is only stored on their network servers or in the cloud, end users often only save files on their desktop PCs and laptops. This is why endpoint protection is needed.

Should any of these devices be lost, stolen or damaged, or should their user delete data, businesses need a way to access and restore that data.

As an MSP, you need to be able to pre-empt this situation by backing up your customers' endpoints. That's where a robust endpoint backup solution come in, contributing to a continuous data protection plan. If data on customers' Windows desktops and laptop is lost or damaged, no matter whether these are located on the customer premises or whether they are off-site, you can restore that data from their backups. Problem solved!

How does the paid subscription work?

Are there no storage costs?

Endpoint backups are stored to your own MS Azure, meaning you can charge your customers for backup storage; we do not store the backups you take and therefore we do not include endpoint storage in the monthly subscription fee.

When it comes to the storage of Microsoft 365 backups, however, unlimited storage to our secure infrastructure on MS Azure is included in the monthly per user price.

Do you charge extra when I perform a restore for a customer?

No. We charge one fixed all-inclusive price per user per month. Charges from your cloud provider may apply when restoring.

What if I have less than 30 users to back up each month?

You can start with as few users as you wish. Our starting subscription includes up to 30 Microsoft 365 users a month, so if you wish to start with fewer users, you can. (See note on pricing, above.)

What if I also want to back up virtual machines and physical servers?

We can help you with that too. You can back up any Hyper-V or VMware virtual machines (VMs) and physical Windows servers at an additional fee per machine per month. Click here for further information.

Do you offer a Free Edition version of your endpoint backup solution for MSPs?

Yes. Upon trial registration, we automatically provide MSPs with to the ability to back up 10 of their own internal endpoints for free; this is not for resale and is provided for their internal use (not on customer networks). A paid subscription is required for any additional endpoint backups for your own use over and above those 10, or any others for commercial purposes (backups for your customers).

I would like to switch from trial to paid subscription. What should I do?

Follow the instructions here or send an email to sales.

Your paid subscription automatically enables you to back up 10 of your own endpoints for free – this is provided for your internal use (this is not for resale; not for use on customer networks).

Do I need to download or install anything to trial EndPoint Backup for MSPs?

Your first step is to sign up to the EndPoint Backup application in our multi-tenant online Control Panel.

You also need to download the EndPoint Manager and the EndPoint Agent, available as part of your subscription.

  • The EndPoint Manager is server software that you must install on your premises or on a cloud VM; use it to manage operations and configure endpoints.
  • The EndPoint Agent is the software deployed to an endpoint (such as a Windows laptop or desktop PC) to perform backup or restore operations. Using scripts, you can deploy several agents at once rather than needing to install each agent manually.

Click here to see how quick and easy setup is.

How many endpoints can be backed up?

Any number of endpoints can be backed up: You can scale up to thousands of endpoints . There is no limit during the 30-day trial either.

Can we use another form of storage for the backups instead of our MS Azure infrastructure?

It is currently not possible to store the data elsewhere. You must store the backups to your MS Azure account, and can bill customers for storage.

If we delete the endpoint but want to keep the data, can we keep the backup?

Yes, it is possible to stop backups for a selected endpoint and retain the backup data. As backups are stored in your own Azure accounts, you can keep this data as long as you require.

How long is backup data retained?

Backup data is stored in your own Azure accounts, and you can keep this data as long as you require. Retention settings can be configured in your customer backup policies to automatically delete old backup versions after a certain period.
