“I've been looking for an onsite backup solution that was as EZ to use as Carbonite, but that allowed for quick back up of large files, (initial online backups can take weeks) and had purchased an Iomega 1T external hard drive for that purpose. It came bundled with "Retrospect" & "Express" and while you might be able to get them to work if you have a PhD in computer science - they didn't work for me, and I could never see what exactly was in the backup volume. “Just a nice thing that happened to me this morning:
I am using jEdit as my text editor. It's a very complex Java app, and it suddenly just stopped working. I would run it, and it won't run. I re-installed it, but that didn't help. I then renamed its settings folder, and it ran. That meant I have some problem in the settings folder, and that I would have to manually go through the whole thing (around 18MB of plug-ins, settings, XML files) to try and figure out what changed, and somehow fix it.

I have tried Ooops!Backup and I have to say that if you need a fast, easy and working backup application you've finally found it. The ten most important things about Oops!Backup :
1 - Really easy configuration
2 - Real "Set-and-forget" options. After the first installation I didn't need to check again for any configuration problems
3 - Very light memory footprint
4 – Truly unobtrusive behavior. It's very difficult to notice that the program is running.
5 - The use of VSS (Volume Shadow Copies) is really transparent to the user. No more warning about files in use during backups
6 - Very fast incremental backups
7 - Very detailed reports: you can see which files changed since the last backup, which files will be saved the next time your backup will start and the changes in the monitored folders since the last backup, in both textual and graphical form.
8 - Very modern and up-to-date user interface
9 - The ability to see backed up files and also the ability to choose which files to restore. Moreover you can preview a file before restoring it.
10 - Last but not least: for the price of a single license, you bring home a very gentle, fast and accurate technical support service. They solved a problem with my installation in only two hours... and it was 10 PM!
